My first encounter with Fluorite crystals was at a large crystal shop on the Gold Coast. They had an amazing display of all these wonderful green and purple fluorite pieces, which caught my eye immediately.

Also called as Fluorspar, fluorite is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, often referred to as a fluorite gemstone.
It crystallises into isometric transparent cubes or octahedral crystals.
It is a highly protective mineral commercially available in clear transparent, green, blue, yellow, purple and brown shades.
Pure fluorite is colourless, but colour variations are caused by impurities in the metal which then colour the overall stone.
According to research, the coloured crystal and minerals can have a range of healing properties based on their particular colour.
For example, blue fluorite seems to enhance thinking and creativity, while clear fluorite looks to energise the aura and balance the mind with the body.

Other colours caused by hydrocarbon contamination can be removed by heating the crystal. Some dealers also apply oils to the stone to bring out the colour and increase the lustre of the stone.
Rainbow fluorite is such a sort-after colour combination. And you can see why.
If one or more contaminants are present, the stone sometimes shows banded colours along with grading in the colouration.
