Amber jewellery has been used in adornments and jewellery pieces dating back over 13,000 years.

Amber history and Goddesses

The Romans provided a powerful visual, suggesting that Amber was the tears of Goddesses. And, you can even buy what are known as Amber tears as a reflection of this mythology.

How beautiful.

Now we have to make the awkward transition of moving from beautiful Goddesses to Dinosaurs.

The amazing thing about Amber is the ability to trap fossils for hundreds of millions of years. Yes, you read that correctly.

Check out the Top 7 facts below to read more about Jurassic Park and extracting blood from Amber to create living genetically modified dinosaurs. Wow.

History of Amber, the Dominican Republic and local Artisans

Huge deposits of Amber are found in the Dominican Republic.

Back in the early days, huge quantities were being shipped out of the Dominican Republic but little to no value was being realised by the locals.

As a result, a law was passed which meant all exported Amber had to be at least partly worked or finished by local Dominican artisans before it was allowed to leave all the country.

This was solely focused on helping the local economy and its people benefit financially from this beautiful stone.

Moments of prehistoric history trapped safely in a peaceful gem

The biggest jump in the worldwide recognition of amber jewellery occurred thanks to the classic Steven Spielberg film, Jurassic Park.

Do you remember that infamous scene where the Amber stone is clearly holding the mosquito within?

Your mind rushed forward to the possibilities of this being real. Could it be? Can Amber truly hold ancient blood and therefore DNA which can be reconstituted into living creatures?

Argh, so many questions and endless possibilities.

Click play on the video below to go live into the Amber mines of the Dominican Republic and the infamous mosquito in the Amber scene.

Perhaps one day but right now there is talk that DNA is not able to be held in Amber for millions of years.

Top 7 Facts About Amber

  1. Amber has an incredible history dating back 150 million years with one particular archaeological find reportedly suggesting a date as far back as 320 million years ago.
  2. 'Amber' perfumes are popular but the fact is, actual Amber gives off next to no scent at all. The Amber scent sold as a perfume is created in a lab. But it goes without saying, the idea of an Amber scent brings up thoughts of a golden, rich perfume with lovely earthy tones, doesn't it?
  3. The popularity of Amber jewellery dates back to the Stone Age, some 13,000 years ago. People across thousands of years have noted its beauty and sense of earthiness intrinsic to Amber. When you get a piece of beautifully polished Amber, it is a true sight to behold. The colour is so peaceful and neutral that women and men both wear it with anything.
  4. Did you know the film Jurassic Park has the base of the story around Amber? Michael Crichton, one of the world's most popular authors, who penned Jurassic Park, had scientists extract the blood and therefore DNA of prehistoric dinosaurs to close genetically modified living dinosaurs. What I find funny is that The Flintstones never mentioned anything about Amber. Amber is so good at preserving things stuck in it that mites were found in some Northern Italy Amber dating back 230 million years.
  5. Amber is a wonderfully cheery stone. If you have teenagers who are going through a tough time in high school, Amber should be high on your list. According to Judy Hall, Author of The Crystal Bible, 'Mentally, Amber stimulates the intellect, clears depressions, and promotes a positive mental state and creative self-expression. It brings balance and patience and encourages decision-making, being a useful memory aid.'
  6. Do you find you jump to conclusions and often those conclusions turn out wrong? Amber is thought to help people see both sides of the story to find a peaceful resolution. To be able to better reflect and see things from the other person's point of view. To be calm in your discussions with others and understand that they could have a well backed up idea as to why they are stating their view that way. The flexibility of Amber can help you dissolve opposition for your side as a result of your empathy.
  7. Baltic Amber is the most common form of Amber you will find in jewellery items, pendants, bracelets and more. Baltic Amber is found in Northern Europe. You are likely familiar with the Baltic Sea, whose shoreline touches on the countries of Finland, Sweden, Poland, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark and Estonia.

Amber healing properties

As you already know, Amber is not a crystal but in fact a beautiful tree resin.

Therefore, the connection to the Earth is very strong and acts as a powerful grounding stone. For those who are looking to be grounded and draw the energy from the Earth, Amber is an excellent choice.

One of the most common meditations for those starting out is to sit on a chair and ideally with your feet on the Earth (perhaps in your yard outside).

You then get to your meditative state (alpha brain wave pattern) and visualise tree roots coming out of your feet and connecting deep into the Earth's crust.

Once you have this firmly in place, start to visualise an energy and vitality transfer from the Earth's core, up through the roots, into your feet and into your body.

This is a simple, yet powerful visualisation used by millions. More importantly, Amber has that connection to the Earth, being tree resin.

The energy of Amber greatly helps the throat area

Many energy healers suggest Amber has the ability to draw dis-ease out of your body.

One particular area you will hear spoken about in terms of Amber is how it is a powerful healer for the throat area.

This is one reason you will notice so many beautiful Amber jewellery pendants, which usually sit on or around the throat area.

Amber Pendants, Amber Earrings & Amber Jewellery

Amber pendants are always unique and captivating. People are always intrigued about the mystery of what you are wearing when amber comes into play.

You see, the real beauty of wearing amber is having the healing benefits of the stone on your body.

This is the very reason people love to wear Amber jewellery items.

There is a lovely level of mystique about Amber earrings as well. Each piece of Baltic Amber is unique and filled with mystery. Gotta love that.

Are the healing benefits of Amber too powerful?

Amber has a number of excellent healing benefits but it isn't 'too powerful'.

his is a lead in question to suggest that Amber can be worn for long periods of time.

So much so, that Amber is used on babies and children alike. There is Amber jewellery for teething, Amber baby necklaces, Amber beads for the baby and many other uses around young children.

As you can appreciate, Amber is a wonderful stone with many health benefits for you to enjoy.

Where is Amber found?

Amber is found in several key locations around the world including Poland, Dominican Republic, Romania, Russia, Germany, Myanmar, Britain and New Zealand.

The Amber found in New Zealand throughout their coal seems is referred to as Ambrite.
